If you are going to get car insurance, you want to make sure that you are getting the right insurance for you and your needs. Knowing the different kinds of car insurance and what they cover will make it easier for you to find the final decision for your insurance. So, what are some of the different kinds of car insurance?

Uninsured/Underinsured Drivers Insurance

While every state has rules about requiring drivers to have insurance and having a minimum of insurance, it doesn't always happen. And because it doesn't always happen, you can get uninsured and underinsured drivers insurance. With this kind of insurance, if you have been hit by someone who doesn't have insurance or who doesn't have enough insurance to cover your medical bills or car repairs, your policy will be able to step in and cover everything for you.

Collision

Collision insurance covers just that. It covers any collisions in between you and other cars or stationary objects like a pole or fence. Some states have this as a required insurance, others do not. It would be a good idea to talk to the insurance agent or company to see if you need to have it by state. If you have purchased a brand-new car, the financial company that holds your car loan may require you to have this insurance, so make sure you talk to them as well.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive insurance covers nearly everything else that happens to your car. This is the insurance you would have to pay out on things like vandalism, acts of nature, car theft, and fire. You may have a deductible on your comprehensive plan, so you would have to pay that amount, and then the insurance would cover anything that is above your deductible when it comes to repairing your car. Most states do not require you to have this insurance, but if you have a relatively new car or a high amount left on a car loan, you might want to get this insurance to help you pay down your loan if something were to happen to your car. You should also talk to your loan agency to see if you need to have comprehensive insurance on your car.
